About Park Maitland...

The school has undergone significant changes during the past several years. The addition of two beautiful, new buildings has approximately doubled the square footage available for classrooms and activities. Everyone at the school is enchanted with the wonderful new spaces!

The school is currently in its 39th year of operation. Though the look of the campus has changed, the educational excellence that occurs inside the classrooms remains ever strong. The atmosphere of the school is homelike, with its gardens and brick walkpaths, quaint older buildings blending with newer additions, and much warmth and genuine caring found within.

Park Maitland School's academics are exceptional. Special distinctions of the school are our departmentalized program, small class sizes, a small teacher/student ratio, and advanced curriculum materials, many a grade level ahead. Please refer to the Curriculum pages of this website for a more detailed overview of our program. Enhancing the fine academics, the school is also noted for its fine and performing arts programs - art, drama, and music classes begin in pre-kindergarten and are a major part of our curriculum. The drama and music programs offer grade-level performances in our new Arts & Athletics Center and culminate in a sixth grade full-scale, "Broadway-style" production at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre in May. Other enrichment classes such as computer, library, swimming (in our in-door, heated instruction pool), Spanish, physical education, etc. round out this outstanding curriculum. All children have ample opportunities to excel.

Park Maitland's parents have been instrumental in its success story. Their continual support, donations of time and materials, offering of wonderful ideas and suggestions, and their trust and willingness to share their children have given the school reasons to continue. We encourage our alumni to visit their former teachers and classrooms and share their own success stories.

Mrs. Nell Cohen, along with the help of her husband, Mr. Bill Cohen, who concentrated in the founding years on the finance and facilities part of the school, has laid a strong foundation on which we will continue to build. We plan to never lose sight of those beginning philosophies and the most important aspect of our school - the love of and respect for children.
