At our final assembly for the 2009-2010 school year, the students were treated to the following slide show. It shows exactly where "our" school in India is going to be built! The students loved getting to see parts of the village, the landscape, the culture, and, most of all, some of the children who will attend the new school. Ground will be broken this summer! Hurray for Park Maitland! Park Maitland School's big, celebratory assembly held last Friday, April 16th was featured on two local television newscasts that evening. We reached our goal of $20,000.00 to build a school in India for impoverished children. Enjoy watching as the children cheer, the big check is presented to our guest speaker from "Free the Children," and several students speak before the cameras. Please note: Channel 6 did get our school name wrong. Of course, it should be, "PARK MAITLAND SCHOOL!" Hurray! On Friday, April 9th, 2010, the K-4 students attended a lovely wedding! Dressed in their wedding finery, they were thrilled as Mr. "Q" and Ms. "U" tied the knot, forevermore to be known as Mr. and Mrs. "Qu." The first video is of the ceremony, itself, while the second one depicts the fun of the gala reception, with beautiful singing and dancing by the children. We thank the many parents and teachers who worked so hard to make the wedding a success! The sixth grade girls in this video performed "Matchmaker" from "Fiddler on the Roof" as entertainment for our guests at the spring "Tea & Tour" on April 10th. The big show will be presented on Thursday, May 13th at 7:30 p.m. at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre. Enjoy this snippet! Park Maitland School is partnering with "Free the Children," a well-known worldwide network of children helping children through education. We're going to build a school for impoverished children in India! Please watch the video below to learn about this amazing organization and see why we are excited to work with them to help give some very poor children in this world a chance to go to school and live better lives. Park Maitland's students, teachers, staff, and friends are raising money to build a school in India. We want children who don't have the chance to go to a school like Park Maitland to experience the best that we can offer to them...a school building, good teachers, school supplies and equipment, and friendship and a bond with our students! Ours will be the first elementary school to actually finance the building of a school for children elsewhere in the world who do not have access to an education! They tell "Free the Children" that what they would love to do -- more than anything else -- is "to go to school!" Please enjoy this video featuring Craig and Marc Kielburger and learn about their exciting mission.
